BOGOTA - Kidnappers holding the brother of former president, Mr Cesar Gaviria, have demanded that the Nobel Prize winning novelist, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, assume Colombia's presidency. He has refused.

The demand came over the weekend from the shadowy group known as "Dignity for Colombia", which has said that it abducted Mr Juan Carlos Gaviria on April 2nd to press for the resignation of President Ernesto Samper.
