The novelist John Boyne has been inducted into the Hennessy Literary Awards hall of fame, something the author described as a “great honour”.
“I am joining the ranks of some of the greatest Irish writers of our time, authors who have meant a great deal to me over the course of my own life,” said Mr Boyne, whose 10 novels include the best selling The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas.
Past inductees include Sebastian Barry, Dermot Bolger, Frank McGuinness, Anne Enright, Hugo Hamilton and Neil Jordan.
The awards ceremony, which is in its 41st year, also rewarded emerging Irish writers Niamh Boyce, who took the Hennessy New Irish Writer and the Emerging Poetry awards for Kitty; Viv McDade, who received the Emerging Fiction award for Leaving for Chile; and Barbara Tarrant who took the First Fiction award for Baby.
