A Norwegian fisherman  airlifted from his boat over 120 miles off the Kerry coast has been taken to Tralee General Hospital suffering from a broken leg.

The  rescue operation started this morning when a n attempt was made to remove the striken crewman to a rescue helicopter. 

However his injuries were worse than at first estimated and he  remained on the boat while the  coastguard helicopter returned to shore to refuel at Tralee airport. 

The winchman remained on the vessel with the injured crewman while the helicopter refueled.
