A retired man from Northern Ireland, who travels south to play the National Lottery twice weekly, yesterday collected a cheque for £583,159 after winning Saturday's Lotto jackpot.

The man, who did not wish to be named, became the North's 48th Lotto jackpot winner. He bought the winning ticket in the post office at Emyvale, Co Monaghan.
