LONDON - Legislation in Britain to deal with the whole gamut of sleaze in public life, locally and nationally, looked closer yesterday after the publication of a new report by the Nolan committee.

The Home Secretary, Mr Jack Straw, welcomed the recommendation by the body investigating standards in public life of a new "catch-all" criminal offence of misuse of public office.
