Further disruption of train services is unlikely in the immediate future, a spokesman for drivers who held a one-day stoppage on Sunday indicated yesterday.

Mr Brendan Ogle of the National Locomotive Drivers' Committee said there was no scheduled date for further disruption, nor had there been any discussions to date about repeating Sunday's action.

But he said the drivers needed to see a clear indication that negotiations were beginning between unions and management on Iarnrod Eireann's viability plan.

A company spokesman said yesterday that the parties involved in the dispute would have to make contact with each other "to see how we can get this back on course".
