IMMIGRATION officials will on Monday interview nine Liberian "stowaways" who arrived in Dunmore East, Co Waterford, yesterday on board a cargo vessel.

It is understood that the group told crew members of the Buga, which was transporting cement for delivery to New Ross, that they intended to apply for political asylum. The vessel is believed to be Croatian owned.

The captain of the ship is understood to have radioed the Irish authorities to inform them that nine people were on board the vessel without authorisation.
