More than 100 armed militants invaded a Nigerian oil flow station operated by US-based Chevron today, disarming security forces and forcing it to stop production, sources close to the company said.

The attack came after police arrested militant leader Mujahid Dokubo-Asari on Tuesday, prompting his group, the Niger Delta People's Volunteer Force, to threaten attacks on oil facilities in the world's eighth largest exporter.

Chevron officials were not available for comment.
