A man was today charged with attempted blackmail under the Terrorism Act.

Edmund Alexander Clarke (38) denies two charges of demanding money from a victim while making threats.

Detective Constable David Midgley told Lisburn Magistrates Court he believed he could connect Clarke with the offences, allegedly committed in June and August of this year.

Clarke, from Irwin Place in Donaghcloney near Banbridge in Co Down was charged yesterday at Antrim serious crime suite.

Resident magistrate Amanda Henderson heard that Clarke made no reply to the charge.

He was remanded in custody to appear at a later date.
