The mayor of Newry will today begin a four-day charity cycle from Mizen Head in Co Cork to Co Donegal's Malin Head.

Councillor Pat McGinn will lead a team of seven cyclists who aim to complete the 400-mile distance for Action Cancer's Big Bus appeal.

The participants will officially finish their cycle as the team lead the St Patricks Day Parade in Newry later this week.

Team members include Eddie Curtis, Noel Pepper, Anthony Sloan, Kieran Crozier, Tom Gaskin, Stephen Boyle and Lawrence McCabe. Mr McGinn said donations can be made to any team member or directly to Newry and Mourne District Council.

He said: "We hope to raise several thousand euro for Action Cancer so we're appealing to people to come out and support us along the route."
