New Thai PM announced

Bangkok - Mr Chuan Leekpai, leader of the main opposition Democrat Party, was yesterday named Thailand's new Prime Minister by the country's monarch, King Bhumibol Adulyadej. He replaces Mr Chavalit Yongchaiyudh who resigned last week after mounting pressure from his own ruling six-party coalition, businessmen and street protesters to quit.
