A new suspect has been identified in the Michaela McAreavey murder investigation, according to a media report.

As the second anniversary of the 27-year-old’s death in a Mauritius hotel room approaches, a BBC journalist in the island’s capital, Port Louis, has claimed that police have named a new suspect and that details have been sent to the public prosecutor, pending an arrest.

The potential breakthrough comes five months after the investigation into the schoolteacher’s murder was reopened.

The daughter of Tyrone GAA boss Mickey Harte and wife of Down GAA player John McAreavey, Ms McAreavey was murdered in the couple’s honeymoon hotel, then called Legends, on January 10th, 2011.
