The Round Ireland speedboat record was due to be broken by up to nine hours early today by a team from the marine rescue services from the Republic and Northern Ireland.

The six-man team left Portrush, Co Antrim, at 5 a.m. yesterday and were due to return at about 3 a.m. this morning, completing a fundraiser for a former colleague, Mr Michael Heffernan, who died in a rescue attempt at a cave in Co Mayo last year.
