A package of new measures on national road safety will be unveiled today.

A package of new measures on national road safety will be unveiled today.

Recommendations are expected to include a reduction in the drink-driving alcohol limit and roadside drug testing for motorists involved in collisions.

The Road Safety Strategy document will be announced by  Taoiseach Bertie Ahern along with Minister for Transport Noel Dempsey and Road Safety Authority chairman Gay Byrne.

The plan is also due to include proposals for an annual audit of speed limits on all national roads.

Compulsory basic training for motorcyclists and agreed standards for the management of road works are also expected to be recommended.
