One hundred jobs are to be created with the opening a new luxury hotel in Dublin next year.

The Marker will be located in the long-empty Grand Canal hotel on Grand Canal Square in the capital’s docklands.

Minister for Tourism Leo Varadkar said the development was a welcome boost for Ireland and Dublin.

“The proposal for this hotel is a significant vote of confidence in Irish tourism, and in Dublin as a visitor destination,” he added.

The six floor 187-bedroom hotel is due to open early next year and will be part of the Leading Hotels of the World group, which includes the Ritz in London.

The new development will also include 84 two-bedroom apartments which will have full access to the hotel facilities.

The hotel was bought last January for about €30 million by investors Midwest and Brehon Capital Partners.
