Dublin Fashion Week, a new event bringing together Irish designers and buyers, is to take place at the Morrison Hotel from October l7th-20th.

Coming in the wake of international catwalk circuits in New York, London, Milan and Paris, the Dublin event will also take place twice yearly and will show seasonal collections from the country's top talents.

Those participating include well-established names such as Lainey Keogh, Mariad Whisker, Quin & Donnelly, Lucy Downes, Joanne Hynes, Leigh Tucker and Rachel Mackey.

They will present current and forthcoming collections on trade stands and in catwalk shows. "It is about raising more awareness of Irish fashion design," said Sonia Reynolds, producer of the event.

Open to trade and press only, it will be a platform for Irish designers, many of whom are forced to show at expensive trade events abroad to meet Irish and international buyers.

"It makes sense for Irish buyers to come to an Irish venue to see Irish designers," said designer Mariad Whisker.
