The Civil and Public Services Union, which represents 13,000 civil and public servants, has appointed Mr Blair Honan as its new general secretary. Mr Honan (45), has been deputy general secretary of the CPSU since 1993. He replaces Mr John O'Dowd, who has been appointed to the new Partnership Centre under Partnership 2000.
