New Bill on Euro elections

Attorneys general will be eligible to stand for election to the European Parliament under legislation published by the Minister for the Environment, Mr Howlin. However, if elected, they will have to resign their office. The European Parliament Elections Bill also provides that a candidate's deposit of £1,000 will be refunded where the number of votes obtained is one quarter rather than one third of the quota.
