People with disabilities are at last beginning to feel optimistic that their needs will be seriously addressed, a conference in Sligo was told.

Mr Tony Carmody, chairman of the team appointed to bring the National Council for the Status of People with Disabilities into being, said the council, which will be an official body, is due to go into operation from January 1st.
