Figures released by the Irish Nurses Organisation this afternoon state that 369 patients are on trolleys in Accident and Emergency units across the State waiting for admission.

Tallaght Hospital in Dublin is the worst affected with 42 patients waiting to be admitted. A total of 31 patients are waiting on trolleys in Beaumont, with 25 waiting in the Mater.

Labour's Joe Costello said today the Government had "failed abjectly" to tackle the A&E crisis.

"The numbers on trolleys around the country was over 400 on two successive days this week," he said.

Mr Costello is leading a protest to the Mater Hospital in Dublin tomorrow to highlight the A&E crisis there.
