Leicester - A suspected Nazi war criminal has threatened to quit Britain as Home Office officials admitted they were powerless to detain him.

Mr Konrad Kalejs (86), a Latvian living at a retirement home on the Leicestershire-Warwickshire border said he would return to Australia to avoid being "hounded" about his alleged past. Police are investigating claims that Mr Kalejs took part in the slaughter of 30,000 people.
