Navy detains Spanish boat off Kerry

A Spanish registered vessel has been detained by the Naval Service for breaching fishing regulations off the Co Kerry coast.

A Spanish registered vessel has been detained by the Naval Service for breaching fishing regulations off the Co Kerry coast.

The Naval Service vessel LE Aisling is currently escorting the Spanish boat to Castletownbere, Co Cork.

It is expected to arrive at 1pm and the boat will then be turned over to gardaí.

The Spanish vessel was detected some 324km (175 nautical miles) off Mizen Head, Co Kerry.

The Naval Service said it had carried out 498 boardings, issued 25 warnings and detained eight vessels so far this year.
