Sarajevo - The NATO-led peace force deployed troops yesterday to prevent possible violence between rival police factions in Bosnian Serb-controlled territory.

The NATO-led force set up a checkpoint to defuse a tense stand-off between some 200 police loyal to Bosnian Serb President Ms Biljana Plavsic and about 100 policemen controlled by indicted war criminal Dr Radovan Karadzic.
