NATIONALIST residents of the village of Pomeray, Co Tyrone, yesterday called for a meeting with Royal Black Institution representatives, suggesting there was still opposition to a forthcoming parade in the village even though the route has been curtailed.

Organisers of the parade, planned for next Saturday, have voluntarily restricted their march "in the interests of goodwill".

However, although the parade will not impinge on the mainly Catholic housing estate adjoining the village, it will still proceed into the village square.

The Mid Ulster Sinn Fein representative, Mr Francis Molloy, called for negotiation with local people, saying that the depth of anger following Drumcree was fuelling the opposition. He denied that Sinn Fein was orchestrating protest.
