BUCHAREST - Ilie Nastase, the former darling of Wimbledon and other top tennis venues, officially opened his election campaign yesterday to become mayor of Bucharest.
Polls show Nastase (49), a candidate of the Rumanian Social Democratic Party of President Ion Iliescu, already has a comfortable lead in the race.
