A train was forced to stop at a level crossing today after a naked man appeared on the tracks near a junction in Limerick.

Iarnrod Éireann confirmed the 9.55am train from Limerick to Dublin was delayed by 20 minutes before gardaí removed the man from the tracks.

A spokeswoman said: "It appears he wasn't in full control of his senses and was removed by gardaí."

The driver of the train was alerted to the man's presence on the line before it reached the level crossing.
