Beijing - Beijing said yesterday the kidnapping and murder of a Taiwan opposition politician in north-east China was an isolated incident that should not impede ties between the two rivals.

Mr Liu Gangqi, one of Beijing's negotiators with Taipei, made the call as Taiwan's main opposition Democratic Progressive Party froze all contact with China following the kidnapping and murder of one of its members, Mr Lin Tichuan, in Liaoning province last week.
