Gardai in Sligo today continue a murder investigation begun last night into the death a man whose body was discovered in the town yesterday morning.

The body of Mr Paul Waters from Avondale in the town was discovered by a member of the public at around near a car park off Stephens Street at 8.30 a.m.

A post mortem found he had died of multiple blows.

Mr Waters who was in his early 40s was from a well-known business family in the town. A bouquet of flowers was placed at the scene yesterday.

He was a former soldier who had served in Lebanon but left the Army some years ago.
