Gardaí have opened a murder investigation after a man in his 20s was found dead in a camper van in Co Westmeath early this morning.

Gardaí said the body was found at 4am at Lough Lene, Collinstown. It was found inside one of three camper vans parked in the car park often used by local anglers.

Following a postmortem by State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy, gardaí say the man's death was due to "internal injuries caused by blunt force to the body".

A man in his late 20s who was arrested earlier this morning is being questioned at Mullingar Garda station.

The identity of the deceased will be released when he is formally identified.
