Murder charges withdrawn

A Co Armagh man accused of murdering two RUC officers is to be freed today

A Co Armagh man accused of murdering two RUC officers is to be freed today. Mr Colin Duffy (29), of Drumnamone Gardens, Lurgan, is due to be freed following a decision by the DPP in Belfast to withdraw the charges.

There was no official confirmation last night but it is understood that the charges will be formally dropped at Lisburn Magistrates Court today. The move follows an assessment of the credibility of a woman witness who claimed she saw Constables Roland Graham and David Johnston being shot at Church Walk, Lurgan, last June.
