THE 28 year old son of the Co Laois murder victim, Mrs Patti Bainbridge, who is accused of her murder, was unable to attend Portlaoise District Court yesterday because of illness.

A medical certificate was handed into court on behalf of Mr Nigel Bainbridge, of the Old Rectory, Coolrain, Mountrath, who is charged with murdering his mother. Her body was found at the family home on Monday, May 6th.

A post mortem examination carried out by the Chief State Pathologist, Mr John Harbison, subsequently revealed she had been shot once in the back.

Judge Martin remanded the accused man in custody to Portlaoise Court on July 19th.
