In our edition of January 17th we suggested that Ms Naomi Long MP in the context of a radio interview referred to the union flag as “a piece of cloth”.
The opposite was the case.
Ms Long referred to the values which in her view the union flag represented and stated that her family had fought for these values and principles.
The Irish Times regrets and apologises to Ms Long for this error and furthermore has agreed to discharge her legal costs.
