BERLIN - A Berlin policeman shot himself in the posterior yesterday when a hot, spent cartridge ejected from a fellow officer's pistol landed on his neck during firing practice, police said.

"Shocked by the unexpected pain, the officer reached back with his pistol in his hand to remove the hot cartridge and a shot was fired," a police report explained. The 24 year old policeman was treated in hospital.
