Gardai are investigating the stabbing of a prisoner in Dublin's Mountjoy Prison.

Gardai are investigating the stabbing of a prisoner in Dublin's Mountjoy Prison.

The 22-year-old is reported to be in a stable condition in the Mater Hospital after emergency treatment. He suffered a throat wound when attacked in the recreation area of the prison, yesterday evening.

The Gardai confirmed they had been called in by the prison authorities to mount an investigation. There were no immediate arrests, but inmates were being interviewed.

It is not known whether the weapon used in the stabbing had yet been found.

The victim of the stabbing is due for release next month.
