A Northern motorist has been jailed for six months and disqualified from driving for five years after being convicted of what a Garda superintendent called "crazy driving" near Ballinasloe, Co Galway.

Supt Tom Commons told Ballinasloe District Court that the motorist overtook four cars and a truck on his left on a stretch of road governed by a continuous white line, before cutting in front of the lorry and overtaking a vehicle on the right.

Jonathan Phillip Vokes, of Beechfield Park, Rostrevor, Co Down, failed to appear in court to answer the charge of dangerous driving last Monday.
