The mother of the 20-year-old Irish man who was shot by a police officer in Oregon has arrived in the US.

The Oregoniannewspaper said Dorothea Hanlon is planning to take her son's body back to Dublin early next week.

Ms Hanlon hopes that a face-to-face meeting with investigators will yield more details about the night that Officer Tony Gonzalez shot her son, Andrew Hanlon, in Silverton.

So far details about the shooting on July 1st have been scarce.

Mr Hanlon was killed when Officer Tony Gonzalez responded to a report of a burglary.

But relatives said he was in the habit of banging on their door when he wanted to be let in, and that he may have been confused and knocked on the wrong door.
