A Belgian mother has killed her five children before trying to commit suicide in her home.
Four girls and a boy, aged between four and 14, were stabbed with a knife during an afternoon break from school before the woman called emergency services in Nivelles, 20 miles south of Brussels.
She tried to kill herself and is in critical condition at a local hospital.
A note reading "Call the police, urgent" was taped to the front door of the house.
Children do not have to attend school on Wednesday afternoon and the killings took place two hours after their return home.
