More than 4,000 young people have turned up for auditions in Limerick for parts in the film of the Pulitzer winner, Angela's Ashes, by Frank McCourt.

The casting director, Ms Ros Hubbard, who discovered the Titanic star, Kate Winslet, said the target had been to see about 2,000 children in Limerick and Clare, but that had already been doubled. Auditions are also to be held in Cork and Tralee.
