Monsanto defers biotech wheat efforts

Monsanto said today it was deferring its efforts to introduce what would be the world's first biotech wheat.

Monsanto said today it was deferring its efforts to introduce what would be the world's first biotech wheat.

The company said it had reached the decision after "extensive consultation" with customers in the wheat industry. The  plans that have generated concerns around the world.

Monsanto said it would continue to monitor the wheat industry's desire for crop improvements to determine "if and when" it might be practical to move forward with a biotech wheat product.
