A National Religious Party (NRP) cabinet minister and a deputy submitted letters of resignation to Mr Ariel Sharon today in protest at approval of his Gaza pullout plan.

The resignations from the cabinet of Housing Minister Mr Effi Eitam and deputy minister Mr Yitzhak Levy go into effect in 48 hours and could jeopardise the Israeli Prime Minister's parliamentary majority.

The NRP's parliamentary faction chief said the party would remain in the government for at least three months.
