The Government is to establish a national working group that will advise the Minister for Health and Children, Mr Micheal Martin, on measures for the regulation of complementary medicine therapists.

The announcement was made at the launch by the Minister in Dublin today of a report on the regulation of practitioners of complementary and alternative medicines in Ireland.

The report was commissioned last year and was prepared by the Institute of Public Administration (IPA).

It recommends the establishment of a working group to examine and consider regulatory issues in Ireland, the continuance of a consultation process and support for individual therapies in developing or strengthening their systems of self-regulation.

The National Working Group announced today will be chaired by broadcaster and educationalist Ms Teri Garvey.
