London - The Hollywood blockbuster U-571 was criticised yesterday by the British Culture Secretary, Mr Chris Smith, who described it as a "little galling" that the film portrayed British wartime actions being conducted by the Americans.

The hit film tells how the US navy recovered the Enigma Nazi code machine, changing the course of the second World War. But in reality, the machine was recovered by the Royal Navy vessel HMS Bulldog before the US entered the war.
