Fianna Fail has accused the Minister for Agriculture, Mr Yates, of lacking proposals to deal with "a looming crisis for farmers in the autumn".

The party's agriculture spokesman, Mr Brian Cowen, said that instead of "musings about slimming down cattle weights", farmers wanted the Minister to bring forward "a set of practical proposals to make intervention workable for Ireland and to restore consumer confidence" in beef.
