Belgrade - The Socialist Party of embattled Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic yesterday launched a fierce counter-attack against the reunited opposition calling for his removal, accusing them of ruining towns they control.

"The local authorities of these `democrats' have left behind devastation in Belgrade and other cities almost equal to the devastation caused by the NATO aggression," a leading Socialist official told a party congress.
