Tarawa - Chasing recognition as the country that will raise the curtain on 2000, Kiribati has renamed one of its tiny islands Millennium. The government announced yesterday the group of desolate uninhabited islets surrounding a lagoon formerly known as Caroline will be officially known as Millennium.
The renaming is part of plans to take advantage of the tiny Pacific nation's claim to be the location where the first light of day will fall on January 1st, 2000.
