Representatives of the mentally handicapped are to establish a national alliance to highlight the "crisis" in services for mentally handicapped people.
Mr Ger South, national executive member of the National Association of Mentally Handicapped of Ireland, said successive governments acknowledged the extent of the crisis but continued to deal with it in a piecemeal fashion.
