The former Dublin footballer and well-known publican Mr Paddy Cullen, was the victim of an attempted robbery as he was walking into a bank in Swords this afternoon.

Mr Cullen, the owner of the Swords Manor pub, was going into the AIB in then town when two men on a motorbike pulled up and threatened to shoot him if he did not hand over pub takings.

After a struggle between the two men, Mr Cullen and a bank porter the men fled the scene but were arrested after two gardaí who happened to be passing the scene in a patrol car made chase.

The two, aged 18 and 19, are currently being held at Swords Garda Station.
