A medical negligence action taken by a retired farmer, local historian and writer who claimed he was reduced to a quadriplegic after a hospital procedure has been settled, the High Court was told yesterday. The terms of settlement were not disclosed.

Mr Sean Cloney (71), Saltmills, near Fethard-on-Sea, Co Wexford, sued the Mater Hospital, Dublin, claiming that following treatment there in 1995 he was reduced from having full power of his limbs to being a quadriplegic. The defence denied the claim.
