SINCE THE explosion of gossip blogs and the resurgence of celebrity magazines, Los Angeles’s courthouses have grown used to accommodating throngs of paparazzi, videographers, camera crews and reporters who trail the famous to their dates with infamy.

However the crowd at yesterday’s preliminary hearing for RB singer Chris Brown was of a different order. Fifty-two media outlets have asked to attend the proceeding, far more than were on hand for Paris Hilton’s rejailing, the case of Lindsay Lohan or the murder trial of Phil Spector.

Brown (20) and his alleged victim, Rihanna (21), also singer, are superstars and their romance was tabloid fodder before Brown’s February arrest on suspicion of beating her during an argument.

Brown faces two felonies that carry a maximum sentence of nearly five years in prison. – (LA Times-Washington Post service)
