Gardaí have seized 22kg of cocaine following an operation in Navan, Co Meath, last night.

The drugs, worth an estimated €1.5 million, were found in the underground car park of an apartment complex in Navan as part of an intelligence-led investigation with Revenue's Customs officers.

During a follow-up search in an apartment in the same complex, gardaí found a further 7kg of cocaine and 1kg of heroin, with an approximate street value of €500,000. Sterling cash in excess of £50,000 was also seized.

Three men aged - 31, 34 and 36 - were arrested and are being held under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice ( Drug Trafficking ) Act 1996. Two are being detained at Kells Garda station and the other at Finglas.

Customs officials said the raid was launched after the 22kg shipment of cocaine was detected coming through Dublin airport.

The drugs were concealed in a courier parcel from South America.

Officers also discovered a cocaine-mixing facility and utensils in the apartment.
